Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them.

” (Holstee Manifesto)

Grüezi, I'm Fabian Pfortmüller, a Swiss entrepreneur and community builder in NYC.

I deeply care about building and better understanding communities, because I sincerely believe that when humans come together and feel like they belong, magic happens. I express this passion by running COMMUNITY - a strategic advisory firm that helps organizations build meaningful communities - and by writing extensively about communities, most recently in the form of the Community Canvas, an open-source framework to support community builders across the globe.

Before this, I co-founded Holstee with two of my best friends, Dave & Mike Radparvar, a lifestyle brand that exists to help people lead mindful lives through products, community and stories. Holstee’s designs have been shared over 120 million times online and its products are sold in 1000+ stores worldwide. The company's mission statement (The Holstee Manifesto) has been described by the Washington Post as "the new just do it".

In 2008, I co-founded Sandbox (& Thousand), a global community of entrepreneurial minds under 30, with 1200 active members in 40+ hubs across the world. Members have been featured for their work on the front pages of Wired, Fast Company, Forbes, the Boston Globe and covered in the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, ABC, Inc Magazine, Vogue and many other media channels.

Holstee started as a project of Incubaker, the social innovation think tank created by Dave, Mike, Thianh and myself in 2006. The Incubaker venture Simple Apps was acquired by the awesome guys of ShopStorm in 2014.

I admire the work of NPR and co-chair the board for NPR's Generation Listen Initiative. I frequently speak at organizations around the world, including Harvard, Yale and Columbia, on the topic of building communities, authentic brand, culture, values driven organizations and entrepreneurship. I'm a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in London and have been recognized as “Top 99 Under 33 Foreign Policy Leaders” by the Diplomatic Courier in 2011.

I miraculously made it through school somehow and hold a B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies from Columbia University.
